Nainital is located in the foothills of Kumaon in Uttarakhand  at an altitude of 1938  meters above sea level,  Nainital derives its name from the Naini lake, an important tourist  place of Nainital. It also hosts many renowned schools proudly part of the British era. The main schools are Sherwood College, College of St. Joseph, and Sainik School. Nainital is also one of the campuses of the University of Kumaun.
